Treasure hunts are not just for the young – people all over the world, including in Tauranga are playing treasure hunting game ‘Geocaching' using GPS devices.
John Wilson from Auckland saw the perfect opportunity between business meetings on Thursday to look for a ‘Geocache' near Tauranga's Cliff Road Rose Garden.
Although John Wilson didn't find a Geocache on this occasion, he has found over 200 in his travels.
The basic idea is to locate small boxes which are called geocaches outdoors and then share the experience online.
John says in the box at the site is a log book, as well as small swappable items.
He didn't find ‘treasure' in this instance but has been playing the game for two years and has found a couple of hundred geocaches.
'It takes you to interesting new places and it's especially fun with kids.”
John likes to play the game as much as he can and plays the game at least once or twice a week.
