Mt broadband gets a hurry up

Mount Maunganui residents will now enjoy faster broadband speeds after Chorus completed works in the area last week, says Chorus chief executive Mark Ratcliffe.
The nine month Chorus project involved the installation of 35 new roadside cabinets and 14km of fibre optic cable.

Mark says this new infrastructure will make a big difference to internet users.
"About 7600 customers are now connected to the new cabinets which contain ADSL2+ broadband equipment previously located in the local telephone exchange," says Mark. "The cabinets are required for these customers because the closer you are to the broadband equipment, the faster your broadband speed is.
"Around half of homes connected to the new cabinets are within five hundred metres of our fibre optic cable network and ninety percent are within a kilometre. This provides an ideal springboard for even faster broadband speeds in the future through VDSL2 technology and fibre to the home."
