A group from Tauranga Girls' College will collide with some of the country's top young business minds after winning the region's 2013 Young Enterprise Scheme.
Soar Enterprise – consisting of seven Year 13 students – were announced as the winners for their unique hazelnut and peanut butter breakfast spread ‘Collide', by the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce today.
Tauranga Girls' College group ‘Soar Enterprise' are the Young Enterprise Scheme 2013 regional winners.
Group leader Lauren McCarthy placed second out of more than 2200 students across the country in the YES exam mark.
When it comes to individual schools, Otumoetai College held the lead taking three of the nine awards.
Otumoetai's ‘Royala Enterprise', who created a kiwifruit snack bar named #nombar, placed second and also won the Manufacturing and Production Award.
The Business Operations Award was awarded to a third Otumoetai College group ‘Bing', for the Bing Bar – a gluten free chocolate mint bar with added protein.
YES is a learning programme offering students the opportunity to create and run a year-long business.

A total of 180 teams from six Bay of Plenty schools worked for the last eight months to develop and market their products and services.
Regional coordinator Anne Pankhurst was 'excited” to see the high standard of business ideas the students produced.
The Tauranga Girls' College students will now travel to Wellington to present their idea to a panel of judges for the chance to win a national award.
