There is frustration in the Coromandel over the inaccurate reporting of a local government decision on the issue of 1080 use.
Coromandel/Colville Community Board chairperson Chris Stark says her board has not made any decisions to ban 1080 despite reports to the contrary.

'Part of our role is to arbitrate for our community and a lot of our community have come out quite strongly against 1080, so we resolved to invite the Minister of Conservation and our local MP to discuss the issue with us and we also resolved to advocate for the use of non residual poisons and hunting.”
Chris says the board is also suggesting that some place (possibly Coromandel/Colville) could be used as an experimental block where hunting and non-residual poisons are the only pest prevention measures used.
The board agreed to approach the Thames Coromandel District Council after meeting with representatives of the Coromandel Landcare Association and the Upper Coromandel Landcare Association.
The meeting is due to occur on Wednesday and media spokesman Mark Ebrey says they will be receiving a report detailing what their statutory role and responsibilities are regarding 1080.
