The availability of an out of season wicket block at the Bay Oval will see the White Ferns play two warm-up encounters in Mount Maunganui next weekend.

The New Zealand Women's team visit to the Western Bay of Plenty is part of their preparation for their tour of the West Indies that kicks off in early October.

The White Ferns will play a warm-up match before facing the West Indies Women's side in three ODI and will finish their tour with a T20 game.

Three of the White Ferns have plenty of experience of the Bay Oval as members of the Northern Spirit, who use the Blake Park ground as a second home venue during the season. Nicola Brown, Natalie Dodd and Morna Neilson have all starred for the Northern Districts women's team in recent seasons to book their berths on the Caribbean tour.

The New Zealand side will assemble on Friday, September 13, and train on the grass practise wickets at the Bay Oval.

On Saturday, they will play a 50 over warm-up game against a Bay of Plenty Invitational team, which will include a number of the most promising secondary school players in the Bay.

An early start on Sunday morning will kick off with a T20 encounter against a second Bay of Plenty Invitational XI.

Both the Bay invitational sides will be selected and coached by BOP Cricket Development manager Tai Bridgman-Raison.

In what should be a real treat for a considerable number of young girl's players, the White Ferns will hold a coaching clinic between 12.30pm and 2pm.

White Ferns manager Katrina Keenan says the team is really keen to support local junior cricket with a special focus on the girls.

'We have looked at our schedule and think that there is a really good opportunity following the T20 match, to run some coaching sessions/training stations with a few prizes and giveaways.

'Hopefully this will also encourage the local kids and community to come along and watch the game.”
