#nombar in hot demand

It may have started off as an unfamiliar brand – but now the #nombar is in hot demand with Mount Maunganui shops wanting a taste of the unique product.

The #nombar, a kiwifruit snack bar created by Otumoetai College group ‘Royala Enterprise' through the Young Enterprise Scheme, could soon be sold in Nosh Food Market and Pizza Crave in Mount Maunganui.

Their idea, a 35g bar, filled with locally-grown macadamia nuts, rewarewa honey, Heilala vanilla and kiwifruit, has been sold at the Palm Beach Plaza Papamoa Lions Market and Mount Mainstreet Farmers Market.

Now, Royala Enterprise managing director Zeenat Azad says the group has been approached by Nosh Food Market and Pizza Crave in Mount Maunganui.

'We still plan on doing more markets but at this stage we're trying to get it [our product] into as many places as we can.”

For now, Zeenat says the group is focusing on getting their product on the shelves.

The group is presenting their product to about 100 business people at a ‘Business After Five' meeting this week in the Devonport Towers.

Zeenat says they will have a 10 minute slot to sell their product in the hope of exposing their brand and attracting more customers.

'[We're] just getting our product and brand out there and hopefully getting more customers as well. Just really letting people know our story and what we are and why we're doing it.

'Usually more than 100 people turn up, so that's quite scary.”

To help them with marketing and product development, the group has secured a partnership with Tauranga's award winning global export company ‘Kiwifruitz' – Kiwifruit Processing Company Ltd. Kiwifruitz will also be speaking at the Business After Five meeting on behalf of Otumoetai College and #nombar.

If you would like to get your hands on a #nombar, contact the group by emailing: [email protected] or go to their Facebook page. Bars cost $2.50.
