Revised levy praised

The president of Tauranga's Ulysses Motorcycle Association is praising the government's decision to claw back ACC levy increases.
'It's a bit better. The way it was going to be it would have caused bike shops to go broke because people won't buy them if the levies are too expensive,” says Ian MacDonald.

Motorcyclists gathering in Wharf Street in protest against the ACC levy hikes in November.

ACC Minister Nick Smith announced on Thursday that the increase for motorcyclists will now range from $75 to $174, depending on the power of the motorbike.
Initially, the government proposed a levy rise of between $511.43 to $745.77 for motorcyclists.
The fees will now range from between $327.70 to $426.92.
Ian believes the government targeted motorcyclists because they were 'easy meat”.
'They've got motorcyclists on a database so they can nail us easy,” says Ian.
He will now face a rise of about $175 for his 1300cc motorcycle.
