Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is looking forward to an evening of lively and humorous entertainment when the Back Benches television show is filmed in Tauranga.
It will be filmed at the Cornerstone Pub on Saturday January 9. Filming starts 7pm, but the show's hosts recommend people hoping to see the show being filmed turn up early to secure a spot.
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is heading to the Cornerstone Pub on Sunday, January 9. File Graphic.
'There will be quite a crowd. I'm inviting friends and supporters and I think Todd McClay is doing the same, he's bringing a tribe from Rotorua,” says Simon.
'It should be a very lively and often quite humorous and raucous event.”
Todd McClay is the national MP for Rotorua. The other MP on the night is Labour list MP Jacinda Ardern. The show's organisers are also promising appearances from other well spoken, or outspoken community figures.
Appearing on the summer road show version of Back Benches is providing Simon with another chance for a Back Benches mug.
'I've been on the show four or five times,” says Simon. 'Every time I've been on they have given me a Back Benchers mug.”
Filming will start at 7pm and be finished by 8pm. The organisers are recommending guests arrive at 6.30 to secure a spot. Getting in ahead of the Bridges and McClay contingents could require an even earlier start.
The Wellington based pub politics show is normally filmed at the Banckbencher Pub near parliament.
The Back Benches Summer Tour sees host Wallace Chapman and guests head to the regions. They started at the birthplace of politics and New Zealand's first licensed pub, in Russell, and visited Mangawhai and Coromandel before coming to Tauranga. Then it's off to Gisborne and Napier.
The team will be discussing the big events of the past year, looking forward to 2010, and highlighting important local issues in each stop.
