Zaggers in receivership

The landlord has called in the receivers on Zaggers on The Strand, which opened in a brand new building only three months ago.

The building's developer Redline Holdings placed the entire Zaggers business in receivership last week.

Zaggers has gone into receivership.

The business includes Zaggers Cafe on Chapel Street that opened in 2007 and and Zaggers 2 on The Strand, which opened in December last year.

Receiver Kim Thompson says the intention is to sell the business as a going concern, with each outlet probably going for sale individually. Both businesses are continuing to trade.

'We will sell them individually,” says Kim.

'I can't imagine anyone wanting to take them both on.”

There is considerable interest in the Zaggers Cafe on Chapel Street, says Kim. The businesses are being listed with a number of agencies.

The receivership comes after businesses on The Strand reported a slow summer, though many bars received a boost from the Jazz Festival at Easter.

Bars in the vicinity of The Strand that closed in February include the Grumpy Mole Saloon, the Empire Nightclub and Route 67 on Harrington St. The Steakout Restaurant has also closed.

Zaggers is owned by Tauranga couple Eddie and Wendy Treacey, who are not returning calls.

"Generally in this industry it's in a hold pattern. If the owners are making a healthy living they are ahead of the pack, as most are break-even businesses."

If they actually knew what hospitality was about, and served reasonable food, maybe they may have got some trade, just because you think you are good, does not make you good, the public are not totally stupid, and it is with reason that a lot of people are entertaining at home , they are sick of getting served second rate food with 3rd rate service, at 1st rate prices, this will not be the last restaurant to fall over on the Strand this year.

love Zaggers

we love going to Zaggers at Chapel Street, we are usually there every weekend for breakfast. We did notice a bit of a lack in quality of food when the town Zaggers opened up but just assumed it was because they were putting all their energy into that Zaggers.

Not surprised

Went to the one on the Strand not long after it opened, ordered two coffees and a scone. They weren't busy, coffes were only average, scone was forgotten. Had to remind them of it, when it did come was raw/uncooked in middle. Changed the order to something else, that was no more than ok. We have never been back. There are so many places that do have their act together, just look at the Phenoix next door.

Silence means that they are scheming how to beg for more TCC ratepayers money to cover this years loss. No doubt just like last year the "loan" will never be repaid.

The Strand will never be popular for dining unless the road is closed during the day. Folks do not like enduring their dining with noisy cars, diesel trucks etc etc. It's not hard to close the strand during busy hours with removal keylocked bollards.

But the train.........

All very well stopping the traffic but you still have the train to contend with. They are not going to stop

Love this place
