Mayoral candidate sued by city planner

Tauranga mayoral candidate Jill Parry is being sued for defamation by Tauranga City Council planner Andy Ralph.
Jill and the Sandy Walkers have constantly opposed Tauranga City Council planning moves she claims erode beach and environmental protection and open the door to more high-rise development across Mount Maunganui.

Jill's trespass moment from Tauranga City Council in August 2009.

It was largely Jills initiative that saw public workshops established to educated residents and ratepayers about making effective submissions opposing changes proposed in the draft annual plan.
The highly successful campaign has resulted in an unprecedented number of individual submissions being made on town planning issues in the draft annual plan.
On the coastal protection issue alone there are more than 650 individual submissions supporting the protection of special ecological areas along the coast from Mauao to Te Tumu.
It was while Jill was enquiring why the Tauranga City Library had removed the submissions from the legally required public access that she was given the papers.
The action was filed on March 3 and Jill says she was served on April 26.
Tauranga City Council chief executive Stephen Town says he undertook the proceedings on Andy's behalf as his employer.

Once again this dictatorial council tries to strangle public participation, this time by frivolous, vexatious and bullying lawsuits. To make matters worse they are doing it with our money.

Is this what happens when someone stands up for what is ethical in our city? I am fed up of a dishonest council who pretent to seek the public opinion, and subsequently do what they like anyway. Now they are suing those who dare to speak the truth!!!
