Students re-enact Easter tale

The story of Jesus came to life as Bethlehem College students gathered to re-enact the Easter tale of Jesus' triumphant entry from heaven into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

Year 6 student Karl Harrison played Jesus and rode a donkey from the College's chapel through college grounds.

He joined Bethlehem Primary School students who were singing a collection of Easter songs.

Adorned in traditional costumes, Jesus and his followers gathered at the end of the pathway, where angels placed palm leaves over his path.

Karl says the best part about being Jesus was walking on water.

'I reckon it was pretty awesome how Jesus left heaven to give up his own life for us.”

Year 4 student Etianne Graham, who played an angel, says if she was a real angel she would worry for Jesus.

'The angels would have been worried about Jesus when he had to leave heaven to come down to earth. If I was a real angel I would be sad and nervous that he was going to die but I would be happy that he can come alive again.”

For many Christian churches Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the holy week which concludes on Easter Sunday.

It celebrates the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem the week before his death and resurrection.

The Bible reveals when Jesus entered Jerusalem the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches before he began his journey to the cross.

I'm not one of those grumps who thinks kids should be deprived of the magic of fairytales. But it is hard to see how as people become older they don't question a lot of this stuff.

Well ....

Maybe it's not a fairytale.
