Coloured water causes upset

Discoloured water described as looking like 'watered down blood” caused some residents a bit of a start this morning.

The discoloured water was first noticed in Ohauiti and Pyes Pa earlier today.

Tauranga City Council reports it is a result of a water supply system test carried out at 8am by Tauranga City Council.

Tauranga City Council Communications advisor Marcel Currin says the discolouration is not harmful to drink.

'If anyone notices it the best way to flush it from their property's system is to run an outside tap for five to ten minutes,” says Marcel.

A caller to 0800 SUNLIVE says the water looked like 'watered down blood”.

'It has a definite red tinge to it.”

TCC knew that they were doing this, they could easily have advise The Sun prior so as all well known instead the usual problem of secret squirrels occurs .... problematic management issue for sure.

Will we be charged for running the taps for 10 mins to clear this or can I claim a credit due to the council contaminating the water in the first place.
