Tauranga and Mt Maunganui electorates have incumbent National Party MPs leading their Labour challengers, with about half of votes counted.
Sam Uffindell is ahead of Jan Tinetti by about 7000 in Tauranga, while Tom Rutherford leads Rhieve Grey by about 9000. In both seats, National leads in party votes.
In the Waiariki electorate, the gap between leading candidate, incumbent MP Rawiri Waititi of Te Pāti Māori, and Green Party challenger Tania Waikato has widened to more than 1400.
Labour has the party vote lead in the electorate, with the Green Party in second after Te Pāti Māori encouraged supporters to strategically split their votes.
It’s looking like a good night for National in surrounding electorates, with the party’s incumbents in Coromandel, Rotorua and East Cape all leading.
Polls have closed in the 2026 General Election, with preliminary results rolling in.
The Bay of Plenty Times team is bringing you coverage primarily from the Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and Waiariki races, as well as surrounding electorates.
