Veterans’ Affairs is bringing its support services to the Bay of Plenty this month.

The roadshow gives current and former New Zealand Defence Force personnel the opportunity to access information, advice and assistance closer to home.

The organisation will host events at the Lion Foundation Centre, Baypark Stadium in Mount Maunganui on October 13 and 14, inviting veterans and their families to learn more about the support available to them.

Head of Veterans’ Affairs Alexander Brunt said that the events are designed to help veterans connect directly with support staff and community organisations.

The roadshow will allow veterans to discuss their current or future support needs, learn more about their entitlements and update the support they or their whānau receive.

“We know it can be difficult for some people to attend events during the day because of work or other commitments. That’s why we’re once again offering an evening session the night before the main event,” Brunt says.

An evening session will be held from 7pm on October 13, for those unable to attend during standard working hours.

The main event will run from 10am to 2pm on October 14, at Baypark Stadium.

Brunt said all veterans, whether they are still serving or have left the Defence Force, are encouraged to attend.

“Family and whānau are welcome to attend too.”

Attendees will have the chance to speak with Veterans’ Affairs staff as well as representatives from a range of veteran support groups and community organisations.

The Bay of Plenty events are part of a wider series of engagements, with Veterans’ Affairs also hosting a similar event at the Due Drop Event Centre in Manukau City on October 15 and 16.
