A person has been critically injured after a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Pāpāmoa this afternoon.
Police were called to the incident on Palm Beach Boulevard at the intersection with Gravatt Rd about 1.20pm.
Palm Beach Boulevard has been closed while emergency services respond to the scene, police said.
A neighbour said they came outside about five to 10 minutes after it happened and saw police at the scene.
They did not see the crash itself but understood a person had been hit by a car.
They said police remained at the scene for some time and were photographing the area, so they assumed it was serious.
Hato Hone St John was called to the crash at 1.17pm.
A spokesperson said they responded with one ambulance and one operations manager responded to the scene with one rapid response unit.
A helicopter was also enroute, but not required.
“Our ambulance staff treated one patient and took them to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition.”
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
