The Bay of Plenty is ready for its close-up.

Film Bay of Plenty’s new showreel highlights not only the region’s diverse locations but also the people, local knowledge and communities that help bring productions to life.

“One region, many worlds” is the message behind the cinematic short film that follows Hell’s Gate chief executive Paul Rayner as he moves between different production worlds across the region.

The showreel also features acclaimed Bay of Plenty actors Cliff Curtis and Temuera Morrison, with music by Tiki Taane.

Film Bay of Plenty manager Jade Kent said the showreel was created to be more than a collection of beautiful landscapes.

“We wanted to show what really makes filming here possible. The locations are extraordinary, but behind every frame are skilled people, local relationships, practical knowledge and communities willing to work alongside productions.”

Kent said the film captured the personality of the Bay of Plenty.

“We are professional and production-ready, but we also bring warmth, humour and a genuine willingness to help people bring their stories to life.”

Spanning the region from Waihī Beach to Ōpōtiki and south to Taupō, the showreel demonstrates the range of locations, people and production possibilities available across the Bay of Plenty.

Kent said the Bay of Plenty had already demonstrated it could support major domestic and international productions.

It highlights Film Bay of Plenty’s role in connecting productions with locations, crew, infrastructure, permitting support, iwi and community relationships, local suppliers and regional knowledge.

“This showreel is an invitation to producers, directors, location managers and creatives to look beyond the expected and imagine what they could create here.

“We’re ready. Come join us.”

The production brought together local cast and crew, tamariki, businesses, community partners and organisations from across the region.

It was produced with Corbie Films, with contributions from Stoke Media, Blurry Media and a network of regional collaborators.
