Ammunition was found in a vehicle involved in a Bay of Plenty police pursuit last night, police say.
Police are still searching for a driver who fled police in Te Puke about 6.30pm.
Police say the driver went through Pāpāmoa and Welcome Bay during the chase.
Western Bay of Plenty Police area manager response Senior Sergeant Diedre Lack said police had found a person and vehicle relating to a previous chase.
When police told the driver they were under arrest, they jumped into their car and sped off, Lack said.
“Police indicated the vehicle to pull over under red and blue lights, but the driver drove dangerously and at speed.
“A short pursuit was initiated but abandoned due to the manner of driving.”
She said police deployed spikes to bring the car to a safe stop but the driver failed to stop.
A police spokesperson said the driver avoided the spikes by driving dangerously around them.
Lack said the driver drove dangerously at police cars and on the other side of the road, creating “significant risk of harm” for other drivers.
No damage or injuries were reported.
At 8pm, police received a report the vehicle was parked on Nettlingham Place, Te Puke, Lack said.
Police searched the vehicle and found ammunition, which they seized.
She said the driver had not been found and the vehicle had been impounded for six months.

Absolutely agree 100%.
If the driver is caught he'll probably get about 6 months inside after all the reports are done.
