Bay of Plenty police are investigating after a large street brawl left three people in hospital.
Police were called to Ford St in Ōpōtiki at about 11pm Saturday night following reports of a fight involving a large group of people.
The group dispersed and police are making follow-up inquiries.
Hato Hone St John said two ambulances responded.
Crews assessed three patients before all were taken to Whakatāne Hospital in a moderate condition, a spokesperson said.
A local resident told the Herald the area remained cordoned off on Sunday afternoon with “multiple evidence markers all over the road and detectives everywhere”.
