A part of State Highway 1 is closed at Piarere after a crash.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the road was closed in both directions at the intersection with SH29 while recovery was in progress.
“We anticipate the road will be closed for the next few hours, so encourage people to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
“SH1 remains open between Tīrau and Hamilton.
“A detour is available for traffic heading to Tauranga, from further south than Tīrau, via SH27 and back on to SH29.
“Traffic heading from Cambridge will need to use Karapiro to Toatoaroa Rd then on to SH29.
Police said they received a report a truck had rolled over near the roundabout of SH1 and SH29 about 7am.
“The truck was leaking fuel and there was some damage to the barrier and a street light,” a spokesperson said.
Hato Hone St John said they responded to the crash with one ambulance.
“One patient was assessed and treated at the scene.”
