Maungatapu Rd in Tauranga has reopened after an armed police operation.

Police said the operation was over and a person of interest had been taken into custody.

“Charges are being considered.”

Police earlier said the road was closed while staff searched for a person.

Some staff in the operation were armed as a precaution.

There was not believed to be any risk to the public.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
