Event fund allocates $225,000 to local events

More than $225,000 has been allocated to 24 community events across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.

It comes after the latest round of the Tauranga Western Bay Community Event Fund.

The funding will support a range of events over the coming months, including cultural festivals, sporting fixtures, Christmas celebrations, performing arts productions and community-led gatherings.

Fund organisers say the investment helps maintain a steady events calendar across the region, providing opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages and interests to get involved in local activities.

The Tauranga Western Bay Community Event Fund is supported by Acorn Foundation, BayTrust, TECT Community Trust, Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

The partnership has supported local community event organisers since 2023.

Acorn Foundation chief executive Lori Luke said the latest round of funding showed the value of keeping a steady mix of events available for local communities.

“Community events play an important role in helping people feel connected to the place they live.

“It is great to see this funding support such a broad range of events, from long-running local traditional events to newer options that give people different ways to take part in community life.”

BayTrust chief executive Alastair Rhodes said the collaborative fund helped to make sure communities across the region continued to benefit from accessible local events.

“When there is a regular calendar of events across Tauranga and the Western Bay, people have more opportunities to come together, celebrate, support local organisers and enjoy shared experiences close to home.”

He said that consistency mattered.

“It is pleasing to see this round support events across sport, arts, culture and community celebration.”

Funded events include the Tauranga Fringe Festival, Pasifika Festival in the Bay, Te Puke Diwali Festival, Mount Monster, Tauranga Christmas in the Park, Waihī Beach Christmas in the Village and the 102nd Katikati A&P Show.

Round three of the Tauranga Western Bay Community Event Fund is now open and closes on October 13.

Event organisers planning upcoming events can apply through the fund’s website.
