Motorists travelling on State Highway 2 near Aongatete are being advised to plan ahead.
New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) says overnight resurfacing works are set to begin next week.
The first stage of the works will start on Monday and will be carried out over four nights between 10pm and 5am.
The resurfacing is part of a wider programme of highway renewals planned across the region during the coming maintenance season.
Drivers should expect short delays while the work is underway.
Stop/go traffic management will be in place at the site and a temporary 30km/h speed limit will apply through the work area to help keep road workers and motorists safe.
Road users are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys or travel outside the work hours where possible to avoid delays.
The work is weather-dependent and may be postponed if conditions are unsuitable.
NZTA is encouraging motorists to check for the latest travel information before setting out.
Updates are available through the NZTA traffic information channels and Journey Planner service.
