A new public transport link is taking shape in Tauriko as work continues on a major upgrade at the intersection of State Highway 29 and Cambridge Rd.
The project, part of the Tauriko Enabling Works programme, will see traffic lights installed at the busy intersection with dedicated bus and cycle lanes into Whiore Ave and a new pedestrian crossing to improve safety and accessibility, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said in a Facebook post.
Road crews have completed significant underground infrastructure works, including new wastewater, stormwater and water services, as well as ducting for communications and gas utilities, the post reads.
“With most of those services now in place, construction teams have shifted their focus to building the new road connection and surrounding transport infrastructure.
“Once completed, the connection will link Whiore Ave directly to SH29, creating safer and more efficient access for buses, cyclists and pedestrians travelling between Tauriko Crossing, the surrounding industrial area and future residential developments in Tauriko West.”
The wider Tauriko Enabling Works project is being delivered by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi in partnership with Tauranga City Council.
The programme is designed to improve safety at key SH29 intersections, support the growth of Tauriko Business Estate, enable future housing development in Tauriko West, protect freight routes and improve access to public transport across the rapidly growing area.
The latest stage marks another step toward creating the transport connections needed to support Tauranga’s western growth corridor.

I must be a bit nieve or thick or could be both, but the new link from Whiore to SH29 is supposed to be from cyclists and buses so what is going to prevent cars and trucks using this link?
Revenue Cameras

And no doubt revenue cameras to catch any other vehicles. It wont help with congestion. It's solely for those empty heavy electric yellow buses which are destroying the pavements in our suburbs, and as a result, turning our nice asphalt streets to chip seal.

Well at least the fossil is a smart one unlike the bunch of no fossilization u seem to have. The priority travel is a complete joke all together!! Hardly anyone uses public transport look at Auckland creating all these bus lanes that are mostly empty whilst the car traffic is bumper to bumper in every direction it’s a complete waste of money stupid bus lanes that are EMPTY!!! Just widen our roads and make these roads open to all vehicles!! But no…. it’s all for revenue they are the scammers in this game of vehicle mafia wars and who wins they do we the public lose every game to the hierarchy.
