One person is in custody after an incident in Welcome Bay prompted a nearby school to go into lockdown this morning.
Police were called to Corinna St about 10.20am to carry out a welfare check, a spokesperson said.
A person was found with a machete and taken into custody.
The spokesperson said a nearby school was placed into lockdown as a precaution and no road closures or injuries were reported.
A staff member at Welcome Bay School confirmed the school had been placed into a brief lockdown but said it had since been lifted and everyone was safe.
