Dry and settled weather should continue across the Bay of Plenty through the final week of May, as a high-pressure system remains over the country.

Conditions are expected to stay mainly fine through the weekend and into next week, providing a good chance to get outdoors and make the most of the milder weather.

MetService meteorologist Dan Corrigan said it would be “wise” to have a warm layer to avoid getting caught out by “fast cooling” evenings if staying outdoors.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to be slightly warmer than last weekend, with highs of 19C in Tauranga and a low of 9C.

Evenings and early mornings will still feel cool, particularly inland.

While the Bay of Plenty is set for largely settled weather, some cloud may develop at times over the weekend, particularly in eastern and coastal parts of the region.

The odd light shower is also possible, although any rainfall is expected to be brief rather than long-lasting.

Corrigan said those in eastern regions planning on getting the washing dry should keep tabs on the MetService rain radar.

“For the best chance at avoiding any pesky showers.”

For Bay of Plenty locals, it is a timely opportunity to enjoy the outdoors – just don’t forget the extra layers for those cooler evenings.
