People are invited to learn more about progress on the Takitimu North Link project at a public information day.

The Takitimu North Link project team will be at Bethlehem Hall, 239 State Highway 2 (SH2), Tauranga on Saturday, May 2, from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

Adrian Jones, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi infrastructure delivery regional manager, said the team is looking forward to connecting with the community.

“We’re really keen to share updates and hear directly from the people who live and travel through the area.

“As construction progresses, the scale of the Takitimu North Link Stage 1 project is becoming increasingly visible, and with that comes a lot of curiosity. We’re expecting a strong turnout.”

Now in its fifth year of construction, the project has reached several major milestones.

Ten bridges – spanning a combined 1.6km across the 6.8km corridor – have been constructed, supported by 45 spans and about 12km of piles.

Earthworks and environmental works are also well advanced.

Takitimu North Link is a Roads of National Significance project, delivering a new four‑lane expressway that will provide a more reliable, resilient and safer connection between Tauranga and Ōmokoroa.

Stage 1 is due for completion in 2028.

The information day will give the public the chance to meet the people building this major piece of infrastructure and learn more about:

- Progress on the major interchange at State Highway 29 (SH29)/Takitimu Drive Toll Road, including the 363m flyover bridge linking Tauriko and Tauranga’s city centre.

- Construction of the major interchange and tie‑in works at Minden Road, Te Puna.

- Work on the new bridge connection at SH2/Fifteenth Ave, improving links to Te Puna, Tauriko, and the Lower Kaimai.

Information will also be available on Takitimu North Link Stage 2 design progress, securing consents and property. Neighbouring projects will also be there to share updates on the Tauriko Enabling Works and the SH29 Tauriko West Ōmanawa Bridge replacement.

Jones says the information day is also an opportunity to acknowledge the community’s ongoing support for this major project.

“We couldn’t deliver a project of this scale without the backing of the community. This event is a chance to say thank you and to keep you informed as we move into the next phase of construction.”
