A child has been taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Cameron Rd in Tauranga.

Hato Hone St John were called to the incident at 10.23am responding with one ambulance.

A spokesperson said one patient was assessed at the scene by the ambulance crew and taken to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition.

Police were alerted about 10.25am and said the child had minor to moderate injuries.

“The driver left the scene, but returned a short time later and is being spoken to by police.”

Inquiries are continuing.
