Emergency services are at the scene of a multiple car crash on State Highway 2 in Tauranga.

A police spokesperson said they were notified of a three-vehicle crash northbound on State Highway 2, Mount Maunganui.

“It appears one person has serious injuries.

“It appears the northbound lanes may be blocked.”

Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they responded to the crash with one ambulance, one rapid response unit, and one operations manager.

“One patient, in serious condition, is being taken to Tauranga Hospital.

“An additional patient, in minor condition, was assessed and treated at the scene.”

According to Google’s Live Traffic Reporting, traffic is stalled in the Mount Maunganui-bound lane just before the SH29A intersection.

NZTA reports on its website that, “due to a crash on SH2, the road is closed westbound at the Te Maunga Interchange. Allow extra time for your journey”.

“Follow direction of emergency services.”
