Cyclist flown to hospital in critical condition

A cyclist has been flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition following a crash in Pyes Pā.

Police were notified at around 1pm after a cyclist was found seriously injured following a crash on Kennedy Rd.

Police said a helicopter was tasked to transport the cyclist to hospital and that the bike appeared to be the only vehicle involved, with a road closure required.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident at Mortlake Heights/Kennedy Rd at 12.38pm.

An ambulance, rapid response unit, operations manager and helicopter attended the scene.

“One patient, in critical condition, is being airlifted to Waikato Hospital.”

A SunLive reader reported that police, ambulance staff and a fire truck were at the scene.

“One lane was closed to accommodate emergency vehicles.”

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
