A body has been found on a Western Bay of Plenty beach.
Emergency services are at an incident, said police.
"At around 8.15am emergency services received reports of a body in the water near Plummers Point Road.
"Police are in attendance and are making enquiries."
A reader phoned in saying they can see police along the shoreline at Plummers Point from their home in Te Puna.
“I could hear all the sirens going and didn’t think it was anything on the highway.”
A reporter at the scene at 10.20am saw several police cars and St John Hato Hone vehicles near the scene.
Police were walking along the beach, which is several metres below the road. Their focus and the nature of the incident were unclear.
Shortly after the reporter arrived, police put up tape cordoning off the Huharua end of Plummers Point Rd.
The area inside the cordon includes a turning bay, carpark and access to Ongarahu Pa and a pathway back up the peninsula.
