Work is underway to restore fibre to a large part of Tauranga after a feeder cable was cut on Sunday.

This resulted in an internet fibre outage affecting users in The Lakes area.

“A civil construction contractor undertaking work on Cambridge Road, Tauranga, accidentally struck one of our feeder cables,” said Tuatahi First Fibre chief network officer Lyndon Templeton.

The outage happened around 10pm, with around 2000 residential services impacted, including 260 business connections.

“Our crews have been on site through the night. The damaged fibre cables have now been removed, and new cables are being installed and jointed today,” said Templeton.

“Unfortunately, due to the scale of the damage, there was no option for a temporary repair.

“Restoration work is progressing and we expect services to be gradually restored during the course of today.

“We understand this is disruptive and appreciate the patience of affected residents and businesses while urgent repairs are completed.”
