Organisers of the second Hume Pack-N-Cool Fun Run/Walk were thrilled with the turnout.

More than 580 people took to the streets and pathways around Katikati last weekend for the second free community event.

With a 5km and 10km run or walk, there were options for all ages and abilities. ]

“It was such a great event,” organisers said in a statement.

“We were absolutely blown away.”

Hume RSE’s took to the stage with a traditional Tongan dance performance, which was enjoyed by all and brought great energy and connectedness to the event.

“We’re proud to support such a fantastic initiative, which truly brings together the community in the spirit of unity and wellness. It was a wonderful morning filled with energy, smiles and participation from all ages and ethnicities,” said Jacqui Knight from Katch Kati.

The event’s success is due to the incredible turnout of not only our local community but from far and wide, with some participants travelling from Auckland to take part.

As participants crossed the finish line, they enjoyed listening to fabulous live music, fresh delicious kiwifruit, perfectly cooked sausages thanks to Farmlands, Hume Flip & Win game, Zespri smoothie bikes, face painting and a Raine & Horne colouring-in competition. There was something for everyone.

Although it was a free event, more than $1000 was raised for the local Katikati Foodbank, as well as bags and bags of donated food items that will benefit those in need.

“Being able to put on a free event for the local community, which has supported Hume for over 41 years, is special,” said Hume chief executive Simon Bowker.

“Seeing such a wide range of people come together to laugh, smile and be active makes it all worthwhile.

“Our business couldn’t succeed without this community and this event gives us a chance to give back and acknowledge that support.”

Judging by the overwhelming requests and feedback, it looks like this event is set to become an annual event on the calendar.

“We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
