Caution over new day care centre

Matua residents are seeking answers from the Tauranga City Council on a proposal to build a private day care facility in their backyard.

The centre, planned for 176 Levers Road, is being proposed by Montessori Matua to serve 40 children and seven staff along with seven car parks. It will operate from 8.30am to 3.30pm during weekdays.

A new care centre is being planned for 176 Levers Road.

Tauranga City Council will today make a recommendation on whether the proposal will be approved for resource consent during a hearing this afternoon.

An application by Montessori Matua was submitted to the city council on October 8 before being notified on a limited basis to 11 parties who were deemed to be potentially affected.

At the close of the submission period on November 8, six submissions were received.

Four were in opposition, one in support and one neutral.

An immediate neighbour, who did not wish to be named, says her and other neighbours are opposing the facility and feel the wider community should be made aware of the proposal so they can also voice their opinion.

'We feel strongly that this location is not ideal for such a place and that we are already served by a facility that is coping well with the demands of this community.

'The community doesn't have a say. It has a far bigger impact than just the facility itself.”

The hearing will begin at 1pm.

Democracy hard at work - yeah right

So, once again, we have the council being selective in who may make submissions. Same with Countdown at Bureta. Little wonder that the general populace has difficulty in showing respect and giving credence to councillors and staff!

let it be

I am a Matua resident and I dont believe we need such a facility as we are already served well by the current day care facility.Those that post ridiculous comments like the ones from dumbkof1 and Phailed(names speak for themselves really)need to think before they write and put themeselves living next door to such a place that they didnt intend on-its not about stopping progress-its about greedy business people trying to push their commercial interests into residential areas-should'nt happen and I ask the rest of Matua to make your voice heard and speak up!

Great neighbours

We were neighbours of a preschool which became Montessori for 10 years. Lovely happy kid noise sometimes during the day and NEVER any noise at night. Perfect.
