Great results at Yamaha NZ Enduro’s fourth round

Tricky farmland terrain at the Yamaha New Zealand Enduro Championships was no deterrent to Yamaha riders James Scott and Wil Yeoman, as they swept through to 1-2 respective overall results.

The fourth round of the series at Ruakokoputuna Hall, near Martinborough, followed last weekend’s third round and Altherm JCR Yamaha motocross star Scott has really hit his stride in the enduro discipline.

He repeated his top performance for the second consecutive round, winning both days and the Oparau rider continues to lead the E3, 301cc-to-open four-stroke class on his Yamaha YZ450FX.

“I had another good weekend and won the sprint day on Saturday by a good margin of about 50 seconds, heading into the second day. I had to have a nice steady day on Sunday and make no major mistakes but I managed to extend my gap as well,” Scott says.

He is understandably happy with the gains he has made since the start of the enduro series and is looking forward to making more as he works towards competing for the New Zealand team in the International Six Days of Endurance in Spain this October.

Scott will join Brad Groombridge, Hamish Macdonald and Liam Draper in the Kiwi team. PWR Yamaha’s Yeoman (19) will head to Spain in the Junior ISDE team and judging by his performance over the weekend, will be a valuable asset.

Taupo’s Yeoman maintained the momentum he built at the third round, to finish second overall behind his Yamaha teammate Scott on both Saturday and Sunday again at the fourth enduro round.

“It was a good weekend for me in Martinborough and it puts me tied for points in my class (E1, 0-200cc two-stroke and 0-300cc four-stroke class) and tied for third overall in the championship. I’m pretty happy with my riding and really happy with my bike (Yamaha YZ250FX) this weekend,” Yeoman says.

PWR Team Manager Paul Whibley says: “Both Wil and James are riding really well and are enjoying the enduros. Wil now jointly leads his class, while James continues his dominance in the E3 class and the overall.”

The fifth and final round of the enduro series will take place after the riders return from Spain and will be a one-day competition at Bideford, near Masterton, on November 2.
