Powerco is reporting many properties are still without power on Sunday following the wild weather on Saturday afternoon.

Parts of Paengaroa have been without power since around 3pm on Saturday, with 58 properties still affected.

Powerco reports that the Paengaroa outage is due to trees in powerlines. An estimated time of restoration by contractors is not yet known.

Storms and strong wind gusts that caused power cuts and led to the closure of Auckland Harbour Bridge lanes on Saturday have now eased

Thousands of properties experienced power outages as strong wind hit parts of the North Island on Saturday afternoon.

More than 2300 properties in Tauranga, New Plymouth and Manawatū-Whanganui lost power.

In Hamilton, 600 properties were without power, 580 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and dozens west and northern Auckland.

Across the country firefighters responded to 20 calls on Saturday afternoon, with high winds bringing down powerlines and trees in Waikato and Bay of Plenty, as well as Auckland.

Powerco posted to their Facebook page at 9.30am on Sunday morning providing an update.

"As you can see from our outage map https://outages.powerco.co.nz/, there are currently a number of properties without power on our network, largely because of the wild weather yesterday and overnight," says a Powerco representation.

"We’ve got crews on the ground making repairs. Thanks for your patience as we work to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

"One of the more tricky faults to fix, because of the difficult access, is one in Pukeokahu near Taihape, affecting 56 customers. A tree has gone through lines."

To find up-to-date info about power cuts, Powerco has an outage map at outages.powerco.co.nz

Search by address to see whose power is out. Zoom in on the map to see the area affected by an outage (change the ‘basemap’ for a clearer view).  Click on an outage for details on when the outage started, how many people are affected, what caused it and when the power is expected to be back on.
