Council to conduct annual water main flushing

The city's water mains will be fliushed during a two week period starting Monday, August 7.

Tauranga residents may see temporary discolouration of their water from Monday.

Tauranga City Council will be conducting its annual water main flushing program for a two week period from August 7.

Downer is the contractor to the Tauranga City Council for the maintenance of the Water, Stormwater and Wastewater systems, says a post on the council's website.

"From Monday, August 7, for a period of two weeks, Downer will be undertaking the Annual Water Mains Scouring Program (flushing) in the following areas: Pyes Pa, The Lakes Residential, The Lakes Industrial, Welcome Bay, Ohauiti, Hairini, Maungatapu.

"This scouring/flushing may cause a temporary discoloration of your water. If you find any discolouration at your home/business, please run an outside tap for 5-10 minutes until the water clears."

This process is to remove the natural build-up of iron and manganese inside the pipes.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Tauranga City Council at any time on 07 577 7000

Can't wait

Can't wait to flush out the commissioners. I see in the paper this morning that the Northshore Stadium is called a white elephant and Mayor Brown wants to bulldoze it . So commissioners high spenders of our money on a stadium in CBD take note . Stadiums don't make money they are ongoing debt . Rates are already getting out of hand. I also note going for a swim over doubled in cost eye watering leap to try keeping fit on a pension and pay the rates

Hose bans coming

Coming your way soon will be water shortage and bans I'd water use. Every year more industry and housing are hooked into the water infrastructure. Yet water the most basic of essential service is lacking but things like stadiums are more important than so many other serious issues. Of course rates have gone up and water rates too by where is the delivery improvements ? But like the government all talk little delivery
