Night works will be continuing from 6pm today on the asphalting and line-marking of the southbound lanes of Cameron Road between Thirteenth Avenue and Fifteenth Avenue.

Night works will run from 6pm to 6am on both Sunday July 23 and Monday July 24. The southbound lanes of Cameron Road will be fully closed while this work is underway.

"We expect this work to take two nights, weather dependent," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

Traffic will be diverted along Thirteenth Avenue, Fraser Street and Fifteenth Avenue. Access to properties will be maintained. Noise and vibration is associated with this work.

The Tauranga City Council construction team at Cameron Road is still working though some rescheduled dates from recent rainfall.

Rain disrupts works such as concreting, asphalting and excavation, says a council spokesperson.

"As the earth below the surface can remain wet for many days afterwards, it’s not always possible for work to continue when the next fine day occurs. In addition to this, our entire work programme is interlinked, which can mean multiple activities need to be reshuffled."   Work on the Eleventh Avenue intersection is now expected to begin from 6pm today, Sunday, July 23, on the western side of the intersection, near McDonald's and Z Service Station.

"We expect work at this intersection to take approximately four months, weather dependent."   The team is also preparing for the weekend commissioning of the new traffic lights at the Fifteenth Avenue intersection from 6pm Friday, August 4, to 6am Monday, August 7.

"This work involves turning off the old lights and turning on the new ones."

Significant delays are expected. Traffic will not be able to cross the centre of the intersection, between the northbound and southbound lanes of Cameron Road will be fully closed.

"This means only traffic travelling on Cameron Road will be able to go straight through the intersection."

Traffic heading from Fifteenth Avenue to SH2 will be diverted along via Fraser Street, to 17th Avenue, to rejoin the northbound lane of Cameron Road to SH2. Traffic heading from SH2 to Fifteenth Avenue will be diverted left onto Cameron Road to Thirteenth Avenue, Devonport Road, to Fifteenth Avenue.

All other traffic crossing the intersection from east (Fifteenth Avenue side) to west (SH2) side, will also follow these detours.

If the weather is not suitable for this work on this weekend, it will be carried out between 6pm Friday, August 18 and 6am Monday, August 21. "We ask that you take these works into account when you plan your journey and prepare for lane closures and potential delays."

"You can check here for travel updates. We also recommend checking Google Maps or Waka Kotahi NZTA Journey Planner."   For more detailed information on these works, visit the road closures webpage.  Intersection work:

Is this to continue digging and compacting the hole they've been working on for months?
