Discoloured water from Greerton to city centre

Residents in the Te Papa peninsula, from Greerton to the City Centre, may be experiencing discoloured water in their taps this morning.

According to Tauranga City Council, the discoloured water is due to a shutdown on one of the bulk main water lines at Oropi Treatment Plant last night to "replace a water meter".

"The water is safe, just discoloured," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"Residents with discoloured water running from their taps should run their outside taps for ten minutes."

If discoloured water is still coming out after ten minutes, residents should call our contact centre on 07 577 7000 to advise their address so that we can direct contractors there.

Run your taps?

So the people selling the water tell us to consume it. I notice there is no mention of any kind of credit or discount on the next bill if you do this. I also noticed an increase in my last bill a week or so ago. Given the increasing cost of this essential resource, I won't be running taps for 10 minutes.
