People wanting to learn how to live "lighter" are being invited to what is being described as an inspiration evening at Mercury Baypark.
TEDx speaker, author of 'Living Lightly” and founder of Mainstream Green, Nicola Turner, will be hosting a talk on how to live more simply with less stuff and waster on Wednesday, May 31, from 6pm.
'Helping everyday people kickstart their sustainability journey is what gets me out of bed in the morning,” says Nicola.
'I have a passion for keeping it real, by sharing how as a family of four we have simplified our life, freed up time and significantly reduced our family's impact on our planet.
'Reducing waste and living more sustainably is about making simple changes that surprisingly don't have to take more time and effort.”
The event is suitable for adults and children 12 and over, and is supported by Good Buzz (kombucha) and Good Change (eco cleaning products).
Topics covered include food, cleaning, beauty, fashion, kids and how to inspire others.

Except when the council closed the Maleme recycling depot much more goes into the bin. It's too far to travel right across the city and then find the recycling has very limited abilities. Seems the mountain of electronics and batteries and other recycling just goes into the tip so I may as well dump it all in the bin as paying to dump two TVs is an extra cost plus the travel expense time and car running across the city . So into the bin with it all. Recycling is pitiful and as we know most goes into landfill

I was impressed with Timaru years ago that one could take useable items to a centre and they could go to someone who could use them . Not here it seems and op shops can't take everything. So just dumped another older flat screen TV and a monitor screen both still work also telephones etc all in the bin. Put a vacuum cleaner and a chest out on the road and thankfully gone to continue to be used . Wondering if a good working microwave will go too , or next fortnight rubbish bin collection
