FutureFit offers a chance to discover your own carbon footprint by answering a few quick questions on your everyday decisions around food, transport, and home energy use.
Even a climate-conscious person like Tauranga City Council Corporate Planner Raj Naidu was surprised by his results when he recently gave FutureFit a go.
See what he has to say below:
Did you have any surprises using FutureFit?
'I had little to no expectation when using FutureFit because I always try to be as sustainable as possible in everything I do, such as composting, having a worm farm, recycling/reusing/repurposing etc. So, imagine my surprise when the results came out based on my responses. My carbon footprint ranking came to 11.9t, whereas the NZ average is 7.7t and the world (OECD) figure is 10.8t.”
What is your top learning from using the tool?
'That I can do more. My household carbon footprint was 3 tonnes more than the NZ average, and this despite practising good sustainability behaviours and processes. It means that I can do better.”
Does this feel like a small change or a big opportunity to grow?
'I drive to work two times a week, and generally I am alone. I will take the opportunity to now explore if I can carpool with others (or others with me) and/or take public transport more often. I believe that my vehicle usage contributed to my results being the way it was.”
Why do you think others should give FutureFit a go?
'FutureFit provided handy tips, solutions and ideas for me to try and bring my footprint to 5.3t by 2025. These are tangible and achievable milestones. I believe doing good for the environment is a lifelong learning journey and doesn't stop with one thing: which is why FutureFit is another amazing tool in the toolbox to do right by the environment and leave a legacy for future generations like my 10-month-old Noa to enjoy.”

The world is becoming fixated!
Posted on 05-05-2023 12:30 | By The Professor
The world has become fixated on trying to 'save' the planet.....and all this comes from Governments around the world trying to control us all. The world tilts over thousands of years and it is that which warms and cools our planet. Driving around in battery powered cars will not stop the tilting. IF Governments were deadly serious about the impact humans have on the planet, they would restrict us all to having one child, like they used to have in China. That is a sure way to reduce the impact given that we are looking at roughly 11t to 12t of carbon per human. Saving the planet is taxing by stealth.
