Police are investigating following two robberies in Tirau and Te Poi on Saturday morning.

"At around 8.45am three armed offenders entered a supermarket on Hillcrest Street in Tirau," says a police spokesperson.

"The group threatened staff, demanding cash and cigarettes, before leaving in a stolen blue Mazda vehicle."

Police say the vehicle then arrived at a store on State Highway 29 in Te Poi.

"Two offenders have got out of the vehicle and entered the store,' says a police spokesperson.

"They have left moments later with an unknown amount of items taken from the store.

"Fortunately, no one has been injured following the two incidents."

Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the offenders.

"We want to reassure our communities that we are taking this very seriously,' says a police spokesperson.

"We are determined to hold those who actively target our local businesses to account.

"We urge our communities and local businesses to remain vigilant and to report any unlawful behaviour - if something is happening now, contact 111.

"Anyone with any additional information which could assist Police in our investigation is asked to please call us on 105 and quote event number P054161666."
