The incident resulted in the closure of Matapihi Road.
"The alleged offender left the scene, and was located nearby and apprehended without incident. Police recovered two air rifles from him," says a police spokesperson.
"The second person is being treated for non-life threatening pellet wounds. Enquiries are ongoing."
EARLIER 11.25am: Matapihi Road is closed following reports of an armed police operation.
Police at the scene say the road will be closed for "30 to 60 minutes," but this is just an estimate.
