A goods train has collided with a vehicle in Waikato, closing Rukuhia Road from State Highway 3 to Gillard Road in the Waipa district.

A police spokesperson says the road will be closed for "several hours, likely overnight".

"There are no major injuries but the collision has caused a train derailment."

"The road will remain closed while work to clear the scene is completed."
