State Highway 2 before Bruce Road, Pāpāmoa is down to one lane following a crash.

The right southbound lane is closed.

A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says to "expect delays".

"Pass the scene with care," the spokesperson says.

Police were called to the crash at about 3.30pm, according to a police spokesperson.

"We were alerted to a crash on SH2 at Papamoa Beach, between Sandhurst Drive on-ramp and Bruce Road," says the police spokesperson.

"It appears the driver may have suffered a medical event and crashed into the centre divider. From what I can see, only one vehicle was involved.

"The person was taken to hospital in moderate condition.

"FENZ and ambulance also attended."

According to Google Maps, traffic is moving slowly in the area.
