One person has died following a crash on State Highway 2.

Emergency services were notified of the single-vehicle crash at about 10.55am, near the intersection of Turner Road.

Sadly, the person died at the scene, confirms a police spokesperson.

"The road remains closed.

"Diversions are in place at Wainui South Road and Esdaile Road.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway."
