UPDATE 2.18pm: Both lanes are now clear on State Highway 2 near Ōmokoroa Road following a crash earlier this afternoon, according to a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says the congestion on the roads in the area will take some time to clear.

"This crash has been towed clear of lanes. Expect delays as congestion clears," says the Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

EARLIER 1.28pm: Emergency services are attending the scene of a crash on State Highway 2, near Ōmokoroa Road.

The southbound lane is blocked, according to a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"Expect delays and pass the scene with care. Consider delaying travel."

A SunLive reader says the traffic is "building up" following the event.

According to Google Maps, traffic is moving slowly in the area.
