Mass traffic delays are being reported on State Highway 2.

People are reporting 44 minute delays at between Tauranga and Te Puna.

One SunLive reader says traffic is bumper to bumper and moving slowly.

"We were heading up to Auckland for the second Elton John concert, but that has been cancelled now.

"We're gutted."

NZTA warned that there would be large traffic delays as people attempted to travel around for the long weekend.

Flooding at the Wairoa Bridge, and at other sites along SH2, will also be adding to the delays.

SH29, between Omanawa and Poripori roads, is also closed after a bank has fallen on both lanes of the highway near the Ruahihi Power Station.
