State Highway 25A is closed this evening after a washout between Kopu and Hikuai.

The closure is expected to remain in place overnight, according to a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"Next update 8am Tuesday, January 17," says the spokesperson.

"Avoid this route or delay your journey as if possible."
