UPDATE 12.39pm: Motorists are being advised to take alternative routes following a crash on State Highway 29 near Karapiro.

"Police were advised of the crash, at the intersection of State Highway 29 and Totman Road, at 11.05am," says a police spokesperson.

"Two vehicles were involved and several people are reported to be injured.

"Traffic management is being put in place and motorists are asked to take alternative routes where possible."

EARLIER 11.34am: A crash on State Highway 29 between Hinuera to Pairere is causing traffic to build up, according to a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"A crash has been reported to emergency services around the intersection of Totman Road and SH29," says the Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"Expect delays through the area."

According to Google Maps, traffic is moving slowly in the area.
