Police are at the scene of a McDonald's in Pāpāmoa after a sign has come loose.

A SunLive reader says part of the Pāpāmoa Plaza car park is closed "due to the sign coming loose".

A police spokesperson has confirmed police are in attendance.

"Police are assisting with traffic control in the area."

SunLive has approached McDonald's for comment.

Send Community Patrol out to standby don't tie up the real Police at a job like this. What an absolute waste of resources.

Emergency services

I was at the Plaza at the time. Understandably, the Fire Service ring fenced the area around the sign in case it fell and injured somebody. As a result, all the traffic in the Plaza car park was diverted past the Z garage into Domain Road. Unfortunately, this created an enormous backup because, due to Domain Road traffic, it was almost impossible for cars to get into Domain Road. It was a pity that nobody in the Service took the initiative to go down and take over directing the traffic at this intersection in order to ease the flow for all. Otherwise my hat off to them. Maybe this choke point in the greater Plaza area needs to be re-thought in light of all the extra development in the area?
